Today we will look at some startling verses. They speak of Lucifer. The prophet Isaiah called him, "son of the morning" (Isaiah 14:12). What a title! The morning sky is bright and beautiful. The rising of the sun from the evening’s darkness is surprising in its splendor. Suddenly out of darkness comes light! So with this being called LUCIFER! He was bright in appearance and magnificent in splendor! His beauty is indescribable!

Many believe that Lucifer, whose name means brightness, was an archangel such as MICHAEL. In fact, they feel he was the lead angel! Archangels were given the greater duties. See I Thessalonians 4:16 & Jude 9. They were important heavenly beings in God’s realm. They had no gender. Lucifer’s "covering" was laden with precious stones–sardius, topaz and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and a deep red stone called the carbuncle (Ezekiel 28:13).

I remember my mother teaching me about this being called LUCIFER and his early beauty. She reminded me that many human beings have beautiful voices. When some speak, it is like music to the ear. When some sing, the tone and range is wondrous. But, when Lucifer spoke, there was a vocal sound not heard in the human realm. When you or I speak or sing, there is a one tone sounded–beautiful or not. When Lucifer spoke or sang, he had a vocal sound of chords (or pipes) that could present music on two or more levels. His voice, before his "fall"--was like an organ of sound! The Bible says that the "workmanship" of Lucifer’s "tabrets" (small drums) and "pipes" (flutes) was prepared in him the day he was created (Ezekiel 28:13). "Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created till iniquity was found in thee." (28:15) Yes, he was an awesome, powerful created being!

Then somehow, somewhere, LUCIFER looked around at his sphere of influence and wanted more. Because he was so glorious and powerful, in pride, he reached beyond his territory of power. He must have forgotten that he was a created being. He must have forgotten that he was not a creator. He only was made to help the Creator.

One day in the archives of "time," THIS LUCIFER, the SON OF THE MORNING, puffed-up himself with self-pride. He decided that he would dethrone God. Boldly, he exclaimed:

This is called the "FALL OF SATAN." It is sad to relate that this powerful being influenced other lower angels with his prideful self-willed importance. They, too, fell with their leader, formerly known as Lucifer. Someday with him, the former son of the morning, they will be cast into The Lake of Fire (Revelation 20:20)! Isaiah 14:15, in today’s reading the prophet wrote of Satan, "Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit!"

The boastful pride of self-importance brought rebuke and condemnation from the fallen angel’s CREATOR, the LORD God on HIGH. Lucifer was cast out of Heaven to roam. He became the "prince of the power of the air" (Ephesians 2:2). He became the "spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience." What a low position for one who had been at the top of creation!

No longer was Lucifer well-thought-of by the Heavenly hosts. He lost his glory and name. Forever he will be known as SATAN or The DEVIL. His self-imposed assignment is to accuse those who know Jesus Christ as Saviour (Revelation 12:10). Christians can only overcome such accusations by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony. We read of Satan’s accusative finger in the book of Job.
